In the Toronto area the 12 Step - Step Study begins at various times. This is a 18 week committment; meeting for 2 hours one night per week. This process works in-depth on each of the ACA 12 Steps. Each Step is covered in one or several weeks and includes readings, discussions, questions, worksheets, and exercises.
The Step Study runs at different times throughout the week. It is recommended to attend weekly ACA meetings in addition to participating in a Step Study.
For the first 3 meetings, anyone can attend the Step Study. After meeting 3, the Step Study is only open to those who have attended at least one of the first 3 meetings. This is to ensure unity and bonding, which would not be possible if newcomers started mid-way. The level of sharing and comfort is also increased for all members.
Some feel ready for the Step Study right away; others prefer to attend weekly meetings for several several months before starting. It is an individual choice. It would be worthwhile to speak to an ACA member who has completed the Step Study.
